Why does 地图 look like this?
地 (dì): Combining 土 (earth/soil) and 也 (also/a vessel), it represents the ground or land we walk on. 图 (tú): A 囗 (enclosure) surrounding 冬 (winter - simplified from a complex drawing), depicting a plan or a drawing of a territory within borders. Together, they mean 'a drawing of the land'!
